How to reach Mera High Camp
As most treks that take place in the Everest region of Nepal, we start off with a scenic and exciting flight to Lukla, the gateway in to the Sagarmatha National Park. Flights to and from Lukla can be delayed due to weather conditions, so Himalayan Friends does recommend to book a couple additional days on your holiday to anticipate this. From here we head off, not on the traditional trail but off the beaten path to Paiya, also known as Chutok. The next few days we head off the beaten path towards the Sherpa villages of Panggom, Ningsow and Chhatra Khola. After this we cross the Chatara La Mountain Pass at an altitude of 4,600m/15,092ft. The views from up here are just incredible and breathtaking! On clear days you’ll be able to see the Kongdi Ri, Numbur Himal, and the Karyolang Peak.
Descending down from the Chatara La Mountian Pass goes steeply through jungle trails. As so we take our time descending slowly but steadily. In these jungles the endangered Red Panda has its habitat and if you’re lucky you’ll be able to spot a few of them. A bit further and we reach Kothe, from here we trek on to Thaknak at an elevation of 4,358m/14,297ft. This is our last guesthouse before heading up to Khare and Mera High Camp. We make sure to enjoy all the given facilities and prepare to head above 5,000m/16,404ft! Khare is absolutely stunning and the views from up here are equally incredible. Due to the high altitude we hold an acclimatization day here and explore around to see the various views. The next day we head up to Mera High Camp. The climb is a bit technical but prefixed rope trails will bring us there safely! We camp overnight at Mera High Camp and enjoy the incredible views of the various Himalayan Mountains that surround us! Mera High Camp lays just behind a glacier and the views of the Mahalangur Himalayan range are exceptional from here. This mountain range includes 4 of the six highest peaks in the world, including Mt Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, and Cho Oyu! Having enjoyed our time at Mera High Camp we make our way back down and retrace our steps back to Kothe.
From Kothe we divert from our trail and head to the Sherpa village of Thuli Kharka. This traditional village offers us more Himalayan views to see. Now the trail heads back on to the main trail to Everest and we reverse it by heading from Phakding back to Lukla. The next morning we fly back to Kathmandu so make sure to enjoy your last night in the Himalayas!
This concludes Himalayan Friends’ Mera High Camp trek of 18 days in Nepal. Can’t wait to head out? Don’t hesitate and book your Mera High Camp trek today with Himalayan Friends for the best adventure! The Mera High Camp trek can be strenuous and has 3 nights of camping at high altitudes included.
