Known as one of the best short treks in Nepal to view the majestic Mt Everest, the Kongde trek takes part in the lower regions of Nepal’s highest mountains. Besides the views of those giant mountains the Kongde trek also has a cultural aspect, as we visit iconic towns like Phakding, Namche Bazaar and Khumjung. These places are famed as traditional Sherpa towns, and during the trek we visit a lot of Buddhist and religious monasteries and shrines. Furthermore we summit two famous peaks, the Farak Peak (4,400m/14,436ft) and hundred meter higher the Sherpa Peak (4,500m/14,764ft). These viewpoints are just incredible, with in the distance legendary mountains such as the Ama Dablam, Lhotse, and of course Mt. Everest! What is the route of the Kongde trek?
Short on time or just looking for an easy trek with incredible views? Than you might wonder what is the route of the Kongde trek in Nepal? Well Himalayan Friends has the perfect 12 days trek in the Everest region planned out for you, and as a Sherpa owned travel partner knows the ins and outs when it comes to the route of the Kongde trek! Starting off from Kathmandu, this short trek in Nepal heads to Lukla by airplane. Some say that this is already the start of the adventure, as this flight is world renown. From Lukla some light hiking takes you up past river banks and trough green paths to Phakding. From here we head more up to the Sherpa capital Namche Bazaar. This amazing town is the last big settlement of the entire region and many famous treks in Nepal cross paths here! To get used to this new acclimatization we spend the next day with a day hike to the Kumjung Monastery. The views of Everest and some other famous giants start to get clearer and ready to head on we head for Thame and ultimately up to Kongde Ri or Hill. We spend the next 2 days enjoying the views here and summiting the famous 2 peaks, Farak Peak and Sherpa Peak. After that it’s time to head back to Lukla with a few days of trekking and fly back to Kathmandu. A short trek in Nepal and ideal for photography trekking or light trekking with great rewards!
