Overview

Head off the beaten path with Himalayan Friends’ lower Dolpo trek in the remote but beautiful Dolpo region of Nepal! This incredible 18 days trekking package takes you to some of Nepal’s most remote areas where you can see some of earth’s last untouched landscapes! The trek heads through narrow and rocky trails. Going through gorges, under massive rocks and through dense forests the Lower Dolpo trek promises you a real Himalayan adventure. The biggest highlights of the Lower Dolpo trek are a visit to the famous and spiritual Shey Gompa and the serene Phoksundo Lake.
The route of the Lower Dolpo trek:
Himalayan Friends has designed an 18 days trekking package with 13 actual trekking days. The route of the Lower Dolpo trek goes mostly off the beaten path and at some overnight destinations camping will be required. There are no hazardous climbs or descends during the trek but we do recommend caution, and to go at your own pace.
After we fly from Nepalgunj to Juphal we start the Lower Dolpo trek to Dunai (2,850m/9,348ft).
By following the beautiful dense forests blended with pine, rhododendron, bamboo, and juniper trees, we reach our first destination Dunai

Continue on the trail passing Tarakor, Laini and Nawarpani we’ll reach at Do Tarap. Here we hold an acclimatization day to prepare the crossing of 2 high altitude mountain passes. The Numa La at an altitude of 5,309m/17,418ft and the lower Baga La Pass at 5,169m/16,959ft the next day. After crossing our last mountain pass we head down towards the famous Phoksundo Lake. The clear blue water reflects the surrounding mountains like a crystal glass and it’s absolutely stunning to see such natural beauty! We spend a few days around Phokusndu Lake exploring, sightseeing and visiting the Shey Gompa and other smaller monasteries. From here a few days trek takes us back to Juphal, from where we catch a flight back to Nepalgunj and Kathmandu.
