As a relatively new short trek in Nepal, the Pikey Peak trek is a journey through the lower Khumbu or Everest region. Himalayan Friends takes you through small villages filled with culture and jungle trails booming with wildlife. The Pikey Peak trek is unique in its own way and lets you enjoy the views of four mountains reaching above 8,000m/26,247ft; Mt. Everest (8,848m/29,029ft), Mt. Kanchenjunga (8,586m/28,169ft), Mt. Makalu (8,463m/27,766ft), and Mt. Lhotse (8,414m/27,605ft). Furthermore the Pikey Peak trek in Nepal passes through various Buddhist monasteries giving this trek a more spiritual feeling. According to legendary mountain climber sir Edmund Hillary the view of Mt Everest is the best from Pikey Peak!
The route of the Pikey Peak trek
Our journey to Pikey Peak starts with a picturesque drive to Dhap Bazaar from Kathmandu. The trek officially takes flight. Traversing the lower Khumbu region, and heads towards Jhapre and then ultimately to Pikey Peak Base Camp. The Pikey Peak is said to offer enthralling views of Mt. Everest (8848m/29,029ft) and its neighboring peaks from a lower elevation range. From Pikey Peak, the trek paves the way towards Loding and then to Junbesi. Considered as one of the best short treks in Nepal, the trail also leads to Thupten Choling Monastery from Junbesi, which gives you taste of the peaceful Buddhist culture.
Gradually following the pleasant trails, the journey rests at Phaplu, where you can explore another famous monastery of the region, Chiwong Monastery. The lush valleys, beautiful vegetation, huge Mani walls, old monasteries, and rhododendron forests along with the beautiful sunset and sunrise views are the major charms of this trekking route.
