After enjoying the marvels of Kathmandu this trek in Nepal takes you to the magical lakeside city of Pokhara. The gateway to the Annapurna Mountains and home to the iconic Fishtail Mountain, Mt Machhapuchhre. Stroling around Phewa Lake is just incredible, especially at night. Seeing the lights glitter on the lake’s surface and enjoying one of the charming restaurants is just what you need before starting the trek in to the Annapurna Sanctuary.
The route to the Annapurna Base Camp
It all begins with a short and scenic drive to Nayapul, literally meaning New Bridge this town is from where we start our trek to the Annapurna Base Camp. After a last check up on our gear we head for Ulleri, our first stop. The trail starts off easy going and leads us through rustic and pleasant villages, some rice fields and a refreshing forest. The Annapurna trek difficulty is sometimes tested in this part as we head up the stone steps of Ulleri, and make our way to Ghorepani. An interesting story is there how this town got the name meaning Horse Water, our Himalayan Friends trekking guide will fill you in on everything on your journey!
The next morning we head out early while it’s still dark and head up to Poon Hill. It’s a short hike and definitely worth it, as we can witness a spectacular sunrise view from Poon Hill’s view point. Seeing that warm glow filling up the valley and the Annapurna Mountains is absolutely indescribable! For photography trekkers, with limited time, Himalayan Friends also organizes various other short treks in Nepal. Getting our take of pictures and videos of this spectacular scenery makes us ready for the next part of the Annapurna Base Camp Trek.  Heading down for the first part is pleasant and gives incredible views. As we enter a majestic Rhododendron forest it gives a refreshing feeling and we head upwards and downwards until reaching the village of Tadapani. Descinding further down and seeing the entire Modhi Valley just askes for some photos as the view is stunning. The next part is amazing, we continue upwards of the Modhi Khola River and heading towards Chhomrung resting at the base of the mighty Himal Chuli. Our next destination will be the Himalaya Hotel. This incredible view hotel lies up high, but as we get familiar to the trekking trails, to get up we first must go down in to an amazing gorge filled with bamboo trees. Following the west side of the river the trail guides us up until reaching the Himalayan Hotel. Entering the Annapurna Sanctuary¸ the views lead into the mighty Annapurna South Glacier, absolutely breathtaking views await. After a day of trekking in the Annapurna Sanctuary, we reach our first base camp, Machhapuchhre Base Camp.  One option is to camp further up above the glacier for a more unique experience! Please consult during your booking to our Himalayan Friends Travel Team, as camping gear is required, and can easily be rented.
Reaching Annapurna Base Camp, ABC
Continue about 1 hour from Machhapuchhre Base Camp upwards in order to reach Annapurna Base Camp. It is just incredible seeing the blue roofs of base camp laying deep within the Annapurna Sanctuary. The Annapurna Base Camp weather depends on in which season you wish to trek in Nepal. But the views as you can imagine our unbelievably beautiful. After we spend some time enjoying our victory of reaching the Annapurna Base Camp we head back down towards Doban and ultimately back to Pokhara.
